Winter Rose coach Mfundo Manyati is confident his first team will topple the strong Swallows forwards in their South Eastern District Rugby Union league match tomorrow (Saturday) at Miki Yili stadium.

Mayanti acknowledges the Swallows' strong front row but says his backline will do the job for him when the two Grahamstown sides meet.

Winter Rose will want to solidify their top sport on the log standing with only four matches remaining in this campaign.

They come off what the coach described as “uninspiring” win against Wanderers last week despite conceding once en route to a 24-7 win.

He says his side played poorly as a team and only focused on individual play. Manyati said the win came via a brilliant display from his backline as Wanderers forwards outsmarted the Winter Rose frontline.

Even though Manyati feels his charges should have done way better over Wanderers, the two sides were even in the first half, with neither giving away possession easily.

In the second half it was Winter Rose who accelerated early, adding points on the scoreboard and putting some distance between them and their opponents.

“In our last game, although we had some individual brilliance, we were very poor as a team.

Our forwards never came to the party and it made the job difficult for our backline. We will need to repair all those mistakes in our next game.

“We know Swallows have big forwards so we will just have to move the ball around and not give them opportunity to come at us,” said Manyati.

Roses have set their sights on winning their division this season and have been consistent throughout the campaign.

They have set their sights on playing in the Eastern Province Rugby Adams cup next season.

A win tomorrow will put Winter Rose in a strong possession to secure the top spot on the log.

Another reason for their favourites tag will be that they have only one match to play away from home, as it has proven to many teams to be a difficult challenge to collect points away.
