Makana Boxing Organisation (Makabo) once again hosted a successful tournament at the indoor centre on Saturday.

Makana Boxing Organisation (Makabo) once again hosted a successful tournament at the indoor centre on Saturday.

The monthly tournaments by Makabo are an initiative to promote boxing in the Makana municipality.

The sport has seen a great deal of growth, with fine amateur boxers making their way up the ranks of boxing.

When Makana hosted the South African National Amateur Elite Championships in July, a number of Makana boxers who came through these tournaments were successful against their national counterparts.

One such success story is Zikhona Skeyi, who fights in the lightweight division and has made the South African ‘B’ team after winning gold in the Sanabo national championships.
