A student was robbed of IT equipment in her Hill Street, Grahamstown digs in the early hours of Friday 14 August.

Grahamstown Police said, the woman, 24, said she had gone to bed around 10pm on Thursday night and awoke around 5.30am to use the bathroom.

As she returned to her bedroom and closed her door, a man walked into her room who told her if she made a noise she would be killed.

According to police the man put a blanket over her head and fled with an HP Laptop, a Samsung S4 cellphone, a flash stick and a bag before locking her in her room.

Police said the woman was traumatised and wasn't able to provide details of the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Alexandria, a crack team from the Grahamstown K9 unit tracked down a firearm and the man suspected of stealing it from a farm on Thursday 13 August.

Constable Devron Hoffman of the Grahamstown K9 unit and his four legged partner, Jack, a patrol dog trained to detect explosives, were called out to the farm around 4.30pm.

"Using their specialised skills, Jack soon reacted positively and led his handler to a patch of grass behind a long drop toilet on the farm," said Grahamstown Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.

The firearm a .22 pistol with 10 live rounds loaded in the magazine was lying in the grass. During the investigation, detectives identified and arrested the suspect, who was an employee on the farm.
