A 24-year old man was stabbed to death in Mdaka Street in Vukani on Sunday 9 August. Police said the man was stabbed once in the chest by his mother's boyfriend.

A 24-year old man was stabbed to death in Mdaka Street in Vukani on Sunday 9 August. Police said the man was stabbed once in the chest by his mother's boyfriend.

The man allegedly had an argument with the boyfriend. By the time police arrived at the scene the boyfriend had fled. The victim's mother showed police where the suspect was and he allegedly told police it was a mistake and showed them the knife he had allegedly used. 
 
Woman robbed
A 23-year-old woman was robbed while sleeping alone in her house in the early hours on Saturday 8 August in Parry Street. Police spokesman Mali Govender said the woman claimed that all doors and windows were closed. She allegedly heard something banging in the front room.
 
She tried calling two friends but they did not answer their phones. She then heard a noise from her bedroom and saw three black men entering the room. They told her not to look at them and they took a blue Samsung 53 mini cellphone, Acer laptop, external drive, laptop charger, skull candy earphones, notebook and wallet. A case of house robbery was opened and no arrests have yet been made.
 
Garage targeted
On Saturday 8 August shortly before 5am, a man with his head covered with pantyhose walked into the Engen garage with a pistol and demanded money from the attendants, police said.
 
The panic alarm was activated and Hi-Tec responded. The garage has a drop safe and there are large signs to this effect. This measure resulted in the armed man escaping with a small amount of money only, police said. No shots were fired and no one was injured. The suspect was not arrested.
 
Loan sharks
A 24-year-old woman and her colleagues were about to open their cash loans business on Saturday 8 August when an unknown man approached them to obtain a loan, police said. As they were not open yet, they told him to come back after a few minutes. The man returned with a gun and instructed them to open the door, which they did.
 
He followed them inside and made them lie down. Two other men entered came and forced the complainants to hand over cash boxes which they placed inside a bag. They then forced the women into the toilet and ran away. Plasma TV stolen
Three men broke into a house in 'D' Street and stole a Hisense plasma television valued at R6 500 on Saturday 8 August. Police said it happened at 4am while a man and his girlfriend were asleep.
 
The men allegedly went straight to the bedroom carrying pangas and switched off the lights before they took the TV. No arrests have been made and a house robbery case has been opened.
 
R10 000 tik bust
Last weekend, members of Grahamstown Crime Prevention Unit and Grahamstown K9 received information about the movement of tik into Grahamstown. A Toyota was stopped and searched just outside of town. Police found a 24-year-old man and 21-year-old woman inside but no indication of drugs.
 
However, when the two were searched, 10 bags of tik, destined to be parcelled into smaller parcels, were found in possession of the woman, according to SAPS Grahamstown Crime Intelligence Officer Captain Milanda Coetzer. The tik’s value was estimated at R10 000. The two were arrested and detained at Grahamstown police station. Both suspects were unemployed, said Captain Coetzer.
 
Drugs success
The June protest march by residents of Scotts Farm, Vergenoeg and Hooggenoeg, against the increase in drug usage in their area, had resulted in the confiscation of a "large consignment" of drugs, SAPS Grahamstown Crime Intelligence Officer Captain Milanda Coetzer said. A memorandum handed over to Col Vuyisiwe Tembani at the time had led to increased policing in the area.
 
Cable stolen
New incidents of metal theft have occurred, according to SAPS Grahamstown Police. On two occasions, houses in B and E Street Fingo Village were left without electricity after thieves stole the copper cable linking the houses to the Escom feed. Cases of theft were opened and are being investigated.
