Mary Waters Mawas rugby sides dismantled the hapless Kutliso Daniels side in the second round of the Grahamstown Initiative Development Programme played at Miki Yili stadium recently.
Mawas 1st team ran in four tries in the first half as they went into the break with a 22-0 scoreline as Kutliso just could not keep up with the pace of their opponents.
Judging by their first half play, it looked as if Kutliso were in for a much heavier defeat. However, in the second half they managed to hold off the feisty Mawas side.
Kutliso managed to pull one try back in the second half although Mawas hit back with two of their own.
In the end the final score was 36-5 in favour of Mawas with prop Dylan Daniels scoring two of his team’s six tries.
The Mawas Under-15 side had earlier in the day paved the way for the first team with an emphatic 55-0 scoreline against Kutliso Under-15.
The defending champions continued where they left off in the first round of the competition as they kept piling up big scores against their opponents.
Mawas head coach Myron May said he was very satisfied with his team’s effort.
He said everything was just too easy for them on the day as they had gone to the games well prepared.
The rugby competition is contested by all the rugby playing schools in the township.
Last year the competition was taken by the Under-15 Mawas.
This year the competition has been expanded and includes the first teams.
