Pre-entries for the Oak Cottage KwikSpar Mountain Drive Half Marathon close on Wednesday 5 August. Pre-entries close at the Oak Cottage KwikSpar in Grahamstown, Brian Bands Sports in Port Elizabeth and Brockett’s Sports in Uitenhage at 5pm.

Online entries, on www.roag.co.za close at midnight the same day. However, late entries will still be accepted at the Rhodes University Prospect Field on Friday 7 August from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and on the morning of the race from 6.30am.

The annual Mountain Drive race takes place from the Rhodes University prospect field on Saturday 8 August, starting at 8am for runners and walkers.

In the past, walkers had 4 hours to make the cut-off and runners 3 hours.

Organisers have changed the cut-off time to four hours for everyone.

With the race accorded provincial participation league status, a large entry is expected from Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage clubs.

While the event will continue to test athletes’ stamina over the seven-kilometre Mountain Drive gravel road, the extra one hour cut off time is sure to attract more athletes.

The event is hosted by Run/Walk for Life Athletics Club.

From the start at Rhodes University’s Prospect sports complex at the western end of African Street, athletes will head along African and Somerset Streets towards Grey Dam, up and over Mountain Drive, through the industrial area through the aerodrome, onto the military base road for an out and back section, down Cradock Road, into Leicester Street and back to the Prospect fields.

Entry fee is R45, with unlicensed entrants paying an additional R25 fee each for temporary licences.
