Rhodes Department of Zoology and Entomology is organising a beach clean-up for Port Alfred Beach on Saturday 25 July. The plan is to meet in the Guido's parking lot at 10am and transport will be provided from there.

Organiser Dr Holly Nel is also encouraging people to organise their own car pools as there is limited space available.

Plastic bags and data sheets will be provided. However, organisers say please bring gloves, preferably reusable gloves and not latex ones, as the intention is to reduce the use of single-use items.

Dr Nel says, "This is an important opportunity to do our bit, although small, for the ocean.

It is also a fundamental platform for like-minded people to chat among themselves about alternatives or mitigation methods that may help combat the enormous crisis our ocean is facing with regarding to marine debris.

As well as contribution the the national beach clean-up database, which records what debris is found on our coast.

I hope to see many people join, bring your friends and family".

If you'd like to take part, please contact Holly Nel, indicating whether you will require transport or have a vehicle to assist people with transportation.
