Ross Geldenhuys, Old Andrean (2002), and a South African rugby union player, arrived in New Zealand at the beginning of 2014 with the hopes of revitalising his rugby career.

He could never have dreamed that just over a year later he would be on the podium at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium as a Super Rugby Champion.

In New Zealand, Ross plays ITM Cup rugby for Tasman and signed for the Highlanders – winners of the 2015 Super Rugby title – for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

“Lower Field was my battle ground, from rugby with Mr Fennel to war cries on a Friday night. Every Saturday I would put on the famous St Andrew’s College jersey and give it my all. The team sport gave me the chance to play with great school friends. I expect my love of the game all started on that field.”

Geldenhuys is honoured to have been part of Super Rugby since 2008 and says that it has been an unforgettable experience.

The medal is a true testament of hard work, dedication, commitment, passion and the power of teamwork.

Ross never stopped believing in his dream which he said could never have happened without the support from his family and the excellent leadership of his team.
