Three promoters are said to be in line to give Mziwoxolo ‘Bhokoloshe' Ndwayana another crack at a title fight. This time it could be an IBO or WBF title fight for the Grahamstown welterweight boxer.

Ndwayana’s trainer (and his father) Bulelani Ndwayana says that, although nothing has been finalised yet, plans are under way for IBO title fight in Namibia in August.

Bulelani met with three promoters in East London recently and they all made promises of a world title fight for his boxer.

However he did not want to disclose any names at this stage, saying he is trying to avoid any conflicts that might occur.

Previously, promoter Welcome Ncita had vowed to be the one to take Ndwayana to greater boxing heights – but Bulelani did confirm that Ncita is not one of the three he met with.

Ncita was the promoter of Ndwayana’s last fight and he also made a promise to give the boxer a chance to stake his claim against international boxers.

Asked about Ncita’s position in the negotiations, Ndwayana said he has very good working relationship with promoter but he has to look out for the interests of his boxer.

He says Ncita has no problems with them looking at alternatives in order to stage as many fights as they can for ‘Bhokoloshe’.

Bulelani Ndwayana says they want promoters who make things happen and not those who just make empty promises.

Asked about his plans for Ndwayana, Welcome Ncita said he is currently busy with other projects with his business partner, Vuyani Bungu.

He said that they have an agreement with the Ndwayana camp to work with whoever has the boxer’s best interest at heart, as long as there is always consultation before any agreement.

Ncita says the issue of funding has been holding his plans back and that boxing in general is not in a good state in the country.

Bulelani Ndwayana says the fight that looks most likely is the IBO bout, while two other promoters promise WBF matches if that deal falls through.

He says they plan to put all the focus in the IBO, as it is more highly valued than the WBF.

Ndwayana last fought in March in a first round stoppage win against Masixole Bazi from Mdantsane, his first fight after losing out on an SA title fight.
