The EP Kings have announced that prop Schalk Ferreira, who played Super Rugby for the Southern Kings in 2013, will be returning to the province on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old Ferreira has been playing rugby in France since 2013 and will be joining the Kings from July 1. He has signed a contract until the end of the 2017 season.

Ferreira initially joined the Kings on a two-month trial during the 2012 Currie Cup First Division season and was included in the Kings squad for the 2013 Super Rugby season.

He joined French Top 14 side Toulouse in 2013.

EP Kings coach Brent Janse van Rensburg was delighted with the signing, particularly with a view to the Southern Kings' return next year to Super Rugby.

“We are happy to announce that we will be welcoming Schalk Ferreira back to the Kings family shortly," Janse van Rensburg said. "We have been working extensively on a number of areas, with one being the procurement plan of the union to ensure that we are prepared as best as we possibly can for re-entry in Super Rugby next season.

"We will need a certain level of ability, depth and also experience within the union's Super Rugby squad to carry us through the competition.

"Ultimately success going forward for the Kings cannot be based on individuals as this will need to be achieved by a honest squad effort, but we believe Schalk has the attributes to contribute positively to us achieving the required dynamic within the squad.”

In confirming the move, Ferreira's agent Gavin Jones said: "I am very pleased about Schalk’s return to the Kings. He was instrumental in the Kings' Super Rugby campaign (in 2013) and I have no doubt he will have even more of an impact in the upcoming seasons." -BB Media
