St Andrew’s Colleges last fixture of the half term took place on Saturday vs Hudson Park with most of the A and B teams in action.
The St Andrew’s first team started off slowly and their first half performance seemed lethargic and uninterested, despite a special individual try from St Andrew’s captain Tom Lane.
As the half progressed, Hudson had edged out a commanding 15–5 lead and St Andrew’s were battling to stamp their authority on the game despite a possession and territory advantage.
The second half was a totally different story as a new enthused first team took to the field, intent on converting their ascendency into points.
Immediately St Andrew’s scored through Ross Ferguson and then Gordon Everard followed it up as Anthony Dakin’s conversion put St Andrew’s in the lead for the first time.
This pattern would continue throughout the half as St Andrew’s racked up a total of 45 points, which included another five tries by Mathew Stopforth, Tim Bloem, Max Kieser, a second for Ross Ferguson and one for Damon Evans.
St Andrew’s emphatic second half display ensured that they ended up well-deserved 50-22 winners.
Apart from the immense second half effort from the first team, there were a number of performances worth mentioning:
Poole in the U14s; Christian Roebert in the U15s; Tom Ryan, Matt Stopforth, Sazi Sandi and above all, Sam Musto, with the mercurial Tom Lane leading as always from the front for the firsts.
