Despite going down to 2-1 to Newtown City, Santos still leads what has now become a three team race for the Makana Local Football Association premier division league.

Santos has 60 points at the top of the table, with five games remaining, while the other two chasing teams, Young Killers and Makana Pillars, have 55 and 54 points respectively.

Santos has secured the top spot for the majority of the season but they can't be complacent as the two chasing teams still have four and five matches in hand.

Killers dismissed a Newtown City side, who had played two matches in two days, 4-1.

Pillars, on the other hand, were awarded the easiest of three points in a walkover against Shining Stars.

As the league reaches the home stretch, all three teams will be expected to give their all with SAB league playoffs at stake.

Currently Grahamstown is represented by three teams in the SAB regional league: Stream A champions MARU, Eleven Attackers and City Pirates.

Although the top three teams are the ones to watch in these latter stages of the league, the match of the weekend was surely the 11 point goal fest between Linge Stars and Cameroon.

The result, though, didn't mean much to either club as they both sit in the middle of the table way above relegation zone and nowhere near the leading pack.

In the other half of the table, this season’s promoted side, Green Leaves' relegation woes continue as they slumped to a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Golden Stars.

Leaves remain rooted at the foot of the table with only four points and eight matches remaining to try and make an unlikely escape.

For Golden Stars the win was vital and lifted them away from the relegation zone.
