Albany Museum is celebrating International Museum Month by taking the museum to the people.

This year's theme is museums in a sustainable society.

The museum had an open day, which included educational programmes for the community.

Specialists in palaeontology, archaeology, education and history gave free presentations to passers by who stopped at the display in Church Square.

Mobile Museum Services Education head of department, Nozipho Madinda, said the programme was a key method of engaging with the community.

She says the museum plays a big role in the community, particularly with their teaching programmes.

The Museum is expected to take their open-day programme to surrounding towns throughout the month of May.

The museum will celebrate International Museum Day at the Albany Museum on Monday 18 May.

There, members of the public will be given presentations regarding careers in the heritage sector.
