The Spur IRONKIDS South Africa aquathlon is the biggest IRONKIDS event in the world. The day before the spectacular global event that is the IRONMAN South Africa triathlon, 1 000 children swim and run their especially set course to finish under the same triumphant arch where the IRONMAN champions will finish.

This is the second year that Spur is sponsoring this event. Andrew Cronje, Senior Market Development Manager for Spur explains: “It is important to encourage and include physical activity within a child’s daily schedule – children need to be active every day to promote their healthy growth and development. Kids who establish healthy lifestyle patterns at a young age will carry them – and their benefits – forward for the rest of their lives. Through sponsoring sporting initiatives like the Spur IronKids, our brand is actively promoting a healthy lifestyle. Another important benefit to sponsoring these events is that children have the opportunity to meet new people and make friends while taking part in fun and enjoyable!”

The IRONKIDS event is open to all children between the ages of 6 and 13. Starting at McArthur’s Pool and Leisure Centre, children in the 6 to 9 age category will swim 60m and run 1.2km while those in the 10 to 13 age category will swim 100m and run 2km. No times are recorded as the focus is on participation, experiencing the sense of accomplishing a goal and having fun. Every child is made to feel like a winner, and is presented with a Spur IRONKIDS swim cap, Spur IRONKIDS t-shirt, a great Spur and Pritt goodie bag, finisher medal and finisher certificate with their photo.
