Grahamstown police ask members of the public for help in solving two separate hit-and-run incidents. A person was killed in the first and the second left another critically injured.

It is alleged that a pedestrian was run over and dragged for nearly 200 metres by a vehicle on Sunday night 22 March.

Port Alfred police spokesperson lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula said the incident took place in B Street, Fingo Village.

Mjekula said the male victim, who could not be identified, died in hospital afterwards.

"The police found him unconscious and called an ambulance.

He died from injuries in hospital few hours later," said Mjekula.

Mjekula said the man's body is still at the state mortuary.

"We urge anyone who perhaps knows a missing person to come and identify the body," he said.

Police are also looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit a male pedestrian in Market Street and left him for dead.

Mjekula said a docket of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.

The incident happened on Monday, 23 March 2015 between 6pm and 9pm.

"It was alleged that the pedestrian was bumped or hit by a vehicle and when police arrived the vehicle had already left the scene," Mjekula said.

The pedestrian could not speak and therefore police could not ascertain his name, Mjekula said.

He was taken to Settlers Hospital for treatment.

Police appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Warrant Officer Bovey at 082 301 9408.
