St Andrew’s College first cricket team represented the Warriors at the National Finals of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge, taking place in Stellenbosch from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 February.
St Andrew’s College first cricket team represented the Warriors at the National Finals of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge, taking place in Stellenbosch from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 February.
The six teams that will compete for the National Title in the finals of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge are: Paarl Boys’ High (Cobras), Hilton College (Dolphins), Grey College (Knights), Potch Volkskool (Lions), Menlopark (Titans), St Andrew’s College (Warriors).
After six months of intense competition in which more than 11 000 players from 650 schools from all over the country took part, the competition is down to the final six schools.
The format will see the teams taking each other on in a round robin format.
After each team has played each other once (five matches in total for each school), the top two ranked teams will contest the final on Sunday.
Warriors will play Lions in this morning’s game, followed by an afternoon match against Titans.
Tomorrow St Andrew’s will face Cobras in the morning and Knights in the afternoon.
Sunday will see St Andrew’s play Dolphins.
Under the guidance of former Warriors and Eastern Province opening batsman Carl Bradfield, St Andrew’s College have managed to book their spot in the National Finals of the Coke T20 Schools Challenge for the first time.
On their way to representing Warriors, St Andrew’s first beat Graeme College and then Kingswood College in the Albany finals.
A 10-wicket win over Volkskool Graaff-Reinet was followed by 109-run win over Woodridge College which set St Andrew’s up for the Eastern Province regional final against Pearson High.
A 67-run win over Pearson gave St Andrew’s the EP title. In the Eastern Cape play-offs St Andrew’s beat Dalubuhle to make the final against Dale.
St Andrew’s batted first and were dismissed for just 110, with Gordon Everard top-scoring with 33. In reply, Dale made on 92/6, as St Andrew’s won by 18 runs.
The St Andrew’s side is made up of Anthony Dakin, Thomas Lane, Gordon Everard, Ross Vides, Stuart Hobson, Christopher Benjamin, Bruce Phillips, Ross Ferguson, Grant Dixie, James Norval, Simon Taylor and James Quarmby.
