Graeme College Golf Day results

A total of 16 teams of four golfers took part in the inaugural Graeme College Golf Day at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club over the weekend.

The event was the brainchild of Garry Botha, parent of Graemian and Eastern Province U13 golfer Shaun Botha. It was organised by Nico van der Meulen, master in charge of sports and principal member of the sports development trust at Graeme, together with Garry Botha and Marius Schmidt.

The format of the day was a four-ball alliance with the two top scores counting. All 16 wind-blown teams completed the eighteen-hole Royal Port Alfred Golf Club course, including four junior golfers and a team consisting of Graeme College headmaster (Peter Reed), the 2015 acting headmaster (Kevin Watson) and two Old Graemians, Garry Jevons and Greg Vroom. Winners of the golf day were T Louwrens, M Louwrens, J Tarr and R Nightingale (with 98 points).

Taking second spot were J Horn, J Emslie, B Emslie & A Ohlson. The following golfers also received awards:

Closest for two on the 1st hole:K Whittun
Closest to the pin on the 6th hole: K van Onselen
Closest to the pin on the 8th hole: T Louwrens
Closest to the pin on the 11th hole: John Pullen (Graemian parent)
Closest to the pin on the 13th hole: Peter Thompson – hole in one. Thompson also received R2 000 from RealNet.
Longest Drive on the 9th hole: Mika de Sousa (a junior golfer)
The Longest Day – four-ball: John Abbott, Kevin, Cody Schmidt (junior golfer) and T Henderson
Longest Day – individual: Ian Suttie
Best Junior: Mika de Sousa
Best Junior – Runner up: Shaun Botha
