Linge Stars brushed aside Love & Peace 2-0 in the finals to emerge as victors of the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse soccer tournament.

Linge Stars brushed aside Love & Peace 2-0 in the finals to emerge as victors of the 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse soccer tournament.

The tournament began last Saturday with the round robin fixtures and ended with the semi-finals and finals on Tuesday 16 December.

Linge Stars made the finals by beating Barcelona 2-0 while Love & Peace made the final after emerging as 5-4 victors in the penalty shootout against La Summer Rain.

Ward 11 councillor Mncedisi Gojela, who organised the tournament at the Ext 7 sports field, said he was excited with the outcome of the tournament and how the teams involved performed.

“It was a very good tournament which I am planning to continue with," he said.

"We have to give these boys opportunities to showcase the talent.” Gojela plans to expand the tournament in the near future by involving teams from the greater Makana area.

“We want to make this tournament even bigger by accommodating all the areas in Makana and surroundings.

“We are also planning another tournament of this magnitude early in February and [the Department of]Safety and Security are aleady on board to make it happen,” said Gojela.

Linge Stars were awarded R500 with a trophy for their performance in the competition. In the junior division of the tournament, Sophia Young Stars beat Linge 2-0 to take the U13 trophy. sport@grocotts.co.za
