Four soccer teams will battle it out for top honours on Tuesday 16 December in a soccer tournament inspired by Ward 11 Councillor Mncedisi Gojela.

The event commemorates 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse. Seven teams participated in group stages with two group winners and runners up making the semi-finals.

La Summer Rain football club eased past their opponents in the group stages, collecting a maximum of nine points in their group by beating all that was before them. They will square off with Love & Peace who were runners-up in their group.

Love & Peace managed to squeeze through to the semi-finals, having collected only three points in their three team group.

In the other semi-final match, group winners Linge Stars will battle it out with the runners up from group one, Barcelona. Both teams finished with six points in their respective groups, although Linger Stars were unbeaten and Barcelona lost a game.

The matches take place at Joza location Ext 7 soccer field.

Gojela said the aim of the tournament was to encourage young men to take part in sport and respect women and children.

The teams are battling it out for the first prize of R500 and a trophy. The second prize is R200 and a soccer ball. The tournament is sponsored by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and Umthathi Training Project.

The first semi-final match between Barcelona and Linge stars is scheduled to kick off at 11 am.
