The event at Prime was well attended by representatives from a broad spectrum of organisations, including schools, day care centres, old age homes and animal rights groups.
Accepting on behalf of Somerset Place, 2013 Citizen of The Year Ben Bezuidenhout extended his gratitude.
"I am very grateful for the gift because we had a terrible problem in October when we went eight days without water. We struggled to bath our frail people so we've already decided that we will purchase water tanks with the amount from the Round Table," he said.
Round Table Chairman Garry Jevons said, "We are very proud to be associated with local charities and we would also like to thank the Grahamstown community for supporting the Round Table."
Director of Rhodes University Community Engagement Di Hornby called upon government, NGOs, professionals, educational institutions and businesses to work together to shape a bright future for Grahamstown.
Hornby was the guest speaker at the event and delivered the keynote address.
The list of beneficiaries included the local branches of the SPCA, Child Welfare, Brookshaw, Gadra Education, Gadra Advice, the TB Care Society, the Farm Animal Centre for Education, Grahamstown and Districts War Memorial Association, St John's Ambulance Society, Salem Crossroads Christian Care Centre, Jabez Aids Health Centre and the Little Flower Day Care Centre.
Other beneficiaries included Inkululeko, Rhodes University's Mathematics Education Project, the Ibhabhathane Community Centre, Heidi Pre-primary School, Iuzuko pre-school, Nokwandile Care Centre, Boy-Boy Mginywa Pre-school and the Mary Waters and Nombulelo schools Interact clubs.
