Restaurants in Bathurst, just down the road from Grahamstown, were abuzz on Saturday 29 November as day one of the Bathurst Country Affair offered sunshine and eccentricity.

Residents put on a show for the dozens of visitors who by the afternoon had settledinto the numerous pubs and restaurants dotted across the village.

From the sublime to agricultural, the Affair boasted events from poo-spitting competitions and sheep-shearing, to wine-tasting and the annual waitron race on the Bathurst Green.

A special treat on offer were tours of the historic Bradfield Mill – recently restored through the local Rotary Club.

Live music is on offer on Sunday 30 November and the eccentricities of the day include a pineapple-throwing competition.
