Joza Karate Club will finish off this year with a well-earned celebration for their members. The Extention 9 club will be having a price giving ceremony and a braai for its members this weekend.

Club founder and trainer Mzwandile Matebese says it’s been a tough road for the club.

They started with only 15 members for their first three years, and now, after 10 years, have over 50 members. “What we [are]doing is just tak[ing]time off and hav[ing]fun with our club members.

This is more than just karate for us,it’s about teaching these kids how to better their lives and learn also about discipline as human beings,” said Matebese.

Matebese founded the club in 2004, saying he learnt karate as a form of defence from township hooligans. To this club, karate is not a form of sport but a consciousness raising tool, keeping Joza youth active.
