A Grahamstown family is struggling to recover after heavy rains flooded their home this week.
The Botha family of Phola Park were awoken early on Sunday 23 November to a soaked bed, as heavy rain leaked into their shack.
"I woke up in the middle of the night and the house was wet all over," Dorothy Botha told Grocott's Mail.
"When I woke my daughter up, her side of the bed was soaked." Botha said she had received nothing from the municipality but black plastic sheeting to cover her shack.
"I have applied for an RDP house but with no luck," Botha said.
"I have also communicated with my ward councillor Marcelle Booysen several times to try and help me with this issue.
"But she said she could not help me. I am earning less than R3 500 a month. People who get houses earn that amount and above."
Grocott's Mail was unable to reach the Ward 4 councillor for comment.
