Juan Munoz gave a farewell concert to remember last week and true to his form – the show does go on.
With Grahamstown plunged into darkness, thanks to Eskom cuts, he lit the Victoria Primary School Hall with a satisfying and diverse programme that shows just how much he will be missed for his contribution to the town's music life.
Starting with a packed stage full of young violinist's who, to him "are the future", he then led the ProCarmine Choir with an impressive and moving Mozart Mass and a Telemann Psalm setting with a quartet of string players and continuo.
Tenor Sibu Mkhize took the stage in a powerful operatic aria and then Juan led an exacting performance of a virtuoso Mendelssohn String Quartet. The concert included a farewell video message from his wife Mariel, whom he leaves Grahamstown to join in Manila, Philippines. Hasta la vista, Juan!
