With just over a week to go until Mziwoxolo Ndwayana's fight for the South African Welterweight title in Grahamstown, it has emerged that the preparations are not all done and dusted and the event is not on the Boxing South Africa (BSA) calendar.

Ndwayana is set to challenge reigning SA welterweight champion Tsiko Mulovhedzi next Saturday 22 November in the new Indoor Sports Centre in Joza.
However, not all the documents have been submitted to BSA and funding to stage the event is still up in the air. Jeff Budaza, Makana's Manager of Sport, Arts and Culture, and Mayor Zamuxolo Peter are hard at work behind the scenes approaching businesses and organisations to fund the title fight.
They are set to meet with Masibambane boxing club today, Friday 14 November, to discuss details of the tournament funds.
Fight promoter Welcome Ncitha, of Ncitha Magic Promotion, told Grocott's Mail that although all the necessary documents were not yet submitted to Boxing South Africa (BSA) he is confident the tournament will go on as expected.
BSA requires application documents be submitted 14 days prior to the event, which means the fight may be postponed should the parties involved not reach a speedy solution to funding the tournament.
Ncitha said he met with officials from the Department of Sports, Recreation, Art and Culture to discuss the funding of the spectacle. Staging the tournament in Grahamstown is important to the boxer, who was born and raised here, as it provides him with an opportunity to write his name in the history books in front of his family and friends.
If successful in dethroning the champ, Ndwayana would be the first boxer in the municipality to hold a national title belt. Bulelani Ndwayana, father and trainer of the local challenger, was optimistic that the fight would take place as planned.
