The heavy storms that hit Grahamstown on Wednesday 12 November 12 flooded homes in the new Mayfield housing development in Extension 10.

However, residents say no serious damage was done.

While some Grahamstonians were terrified by the strong winds that came with the storm, the residents of the newly built settlement of Mayfield were emptying the rain water that flooded their houses.

One Mayfield resident said that the intensity of the wind even blew down a piece of her ceiling. Rain water flooded their bedroom, another resident said.

She said she appreciates the house the government has given her, but the flooding in her house made her feel like she was sleeping outside.

Residents of Extension 8 also experienced flooding. Luthando Funani said he came home to a house full of water. His neighbours were also busy taking water out of the house, he said, but it was useless because the rain kept pouring down.

"The rain did not cause serious damage," Funani said. Luyanda Mlambo of Extension 10 said that no water came into his house.
