At least four people had to be rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries in a collision involving a bus and a taxi in Grahamstown on Monday.
The accident happened at around 8am on the N2 at the Grey Street intersection on Monday morning, Grahamstown police said. Police spokesperson Captain Milanda Coetzer said visibility appeared to be limited at the time of the accident due to rainy weather.
"It appeared that the bus turned onto the N2 Port Elizabeth road without identifying the oncoming taxi due to the heavy mist," she said.
"The taxi could not avoid the collision and drove into the trailer of the bus," said Coetzer.
The police have opened a case of Reckless and Negligent Driving. The front of the taxi was left smashed causing the driver to suffer injuries as well.
There were seven passengers in the taxi and three were slightly injured. All four injured persons were taken to Settlers Hospital where they received treatment.
