Members of the Eastern Cape media were taken on an educational tour last week to promote the province to visitors attending the Nelson Mandela Bay 7’s rugby tournament. Among the tour highlights were a visit to the Route 67 on Donkin Drive, which consists of 67 public art works symbolising Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of political life.

The group then took to zip lining at the Adrenalin Addo, which is South Africa’s longest double zip line.

The tour group was then joined for a game drive through the Addo Elephant National Park with South African Rugby Union executive members as well as three Blitzbokke (Springbok Sevens’ players) Philip Snyman, Frankie Horne and Branco du Preez.

Animals spotted along the drive included two lions and dozens of elephants. Other highlights included canoeing along the Sunday’s River with Crisscross River Safari, a tour to Mooihoek Strawberry Farm in Patensie and a visit to the Malan Cucumber Farm in the Gamtoos Valley.

The three-day tour ended with a visit to the Sarah Baartman graveyard in Hankey.

The tour showed that there is plenty to keep holiday makers and residents in the Eastern Cape busy and entertained around our beautiful province. The Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens Tournament takes place on 13 and 14 December 2014 in Port Elizabeth.

Grocott's Mail will run a series of On Your Doorstep articles related to the media tour over the next few weeks.
