The opening paragraph of the 5 September story incorrectly states that Thembelani Fene, who had gone to the hospital to get rubber end-pieces for his daughter's crutches, left empty handed.
This was not correct.
As the caption to the photograph that accompanies the story makes clear, Mr. Fene did receive a set of rubber-end pieces. We apologize for this error.
With the assistance of the Health Department it has been established that whilst Mr Fene was unable to collect rubber end pieces during a visit to the Hospital in January 2014 as there were “none in stock”, their regular availability has since been established.
The headline 'Shortages cripple hospital' was not suggested by the journalist concerned, and we agree that the headline does not fully reflect what the story is about, and is not an accurate reflection of the services provided to the community by Settlers Hospital under difficult circumstances.
