The Makana Municipality Fire Department responded promptly to a dangerous paint spill on George Street yesterday evening, 23 October.

Five 20-litre buckets of paint fell of the back of a truck, spreading a hazardous white film across half a block of the street just before Market Street.

Grocott's Mail encountered the truck, with the remaining paint and clear signs of the spill, after it turned into Market Street.

When our reporter questioned the workers on the truck, which has a Gauteng licence plate, they seemed to be unaware of the accident.

Fortunately the fire department was on the ball as the officials, who asked not to be identified, said the spilt paint created extremely slippery conditions on the hill, which some drivers take at high speed.

It was cleaned up before an accidents occurred.
