The fourth sale of the 2014 winter mohair season took place in Port Elizabeth Tuesday 7 October with a large offering of 197 290 kg.

The mohair market remained stable, which is very positive taking into account the large offering, with the market indicator closing on R179.73 per kg and 98% of the offering sold.

It consisted of good individual clips, with buying houses competing actively for the better qualities, which is an indication of the continued good demand for mohair fibre.

A highest price of R600.00 per kg was paid for a bale of super style 26 micron kid’s mohair.

Compared to previous sales, prices were as follows: Kids (winter) Unchanged Young Goats (winter) Unchanged Fine Adults Unchanged Strong Adults Unchanged Average Unchanged.

The fifth winter sale will take place on 28 October 2014.
