In the evening the water came back, but residents' celebrations were short-lived because 30 minutes later the taps were dry again.
In an update on Mobisam, Amatola Water says the pipe that left residents without water for three days was fixed yesterday.
However, a few metres downstream they discovered a vandalised air valve.
They had to close off the water supply again for repairs.
Some areas that were without water have meanwhile been linked to the Waainek water supply, to relieve the demand from Botha's Hill.
