A Hip Hop Peace Day concert held at Noluthando Hall on Friday 26 September showcased the skills and abilities of the grade 6 and 7 pupils from four Grahamstown schools.

The beat for the peace day song was supplied by Rhodes University Music and Musicology Department and Sonic Art Studio.
Each school had to write their own lyrics.

This concert was presented by Awarenet, Peace One Day, Rhodes University's Department of Music and Musicology and Sonic Art Studio.

Organisers said all the songs performed at the Peace Day concert would be recorded for a Peace Day CD.

Overall winner Victoria Girls' High school will be recording a video available for the public to watch on YouTube.

The other participating schools which are Kutliso Daniels High School, C.M Vellem higher primary, Good Shepard primary school and Ntaba Maria also left the concert winners. This was because the organisers ensured that there were other categories that gave all of the participating schools a chance to win something and emphasise their different strengths.

The young musical leaders were not only showcasing their skills but also preaching love, liberation and unity to their audience and society at large.

With passion about the topic visible in all their performances, the time and monetary investment made by the stakeholders was worth it. These organisers spent three months with the schools and attending practices and organising the concert.
