A 34-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving after he drove into a tree on Templeton Drive late Wednesday night.

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said police officers who were on patrol at the time were dispatched to Templeton Drive after the incident was reported at about 11.30pm.

When they arrived, officers found the driver of the grey VW Polo at the scene.

Govender said the car had been badly damaged.

The driver told officers he was driving home when he lost control of his vehicle and drove into the tree.

"One of the officers who responded to the call noticed that the driver appeared to be drunk and called the traffic department," she said.

Govender said alcohol tests were conducted on the driver and he was found to be over the legal limit.

The 34-year-old man was arrested, she said.
