It was a day in the country for folk from Grahamstown and the surrounding farms at the St Cyprian's Country Fair.

Among the visitors were a gang of motorcyclists in leathers, and the Benedictine monks from Mariya uMama weThemba Monastery down the road.

Fresh produce and delicious jams and preserves, tasty meals, pancakes and teas, pony rides and an area where children could pet a sheep, a donkey, rabbits and hamsters made it a perfect family outing.

The highlight was the auction in which everything from cowhides to boxes of wine, weekends away to manure were sold to raise funds for the church.

The event was combined with a funride sponsored by The Motion Shop.

The 20km event started at the N2 Industrial Area junction near Waainek Prison.
