A man recently released from prison was arrested after allegedly robbing a Grahamstown woman in her flat on Thursday morning.

Grahamstown Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said in a statement that the woman was alone inside her flat around 7am on Thursday 11 September when a man accosted her, demanding cash and jewelry.

After assuring her he had no intention of harming her, he left the room, only to return with a knife and start packing up her laptop and other personal belongings.

Demanding her keys, the man asked her to stay in her room, closed the door and left.

The woman's screams for help alerted friends who contacted a local security company.

They responded and contacted the police.

The alleged suspect was arrested shortly after the incident by a local security company and handed to the SAPS. He will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrates Court Soon.

A case of house robbery is being investigated.
