Parkrun South Africa is set to launch in Grahamstown this month, with the first event taking place on Saturday 27 September.

Bruce Fordyce, the initiator of Park Run South Africa, will officially launch the Grahamstown Park Run. Nicola Brown, event director for Grahamstown Park Run is excited about heading it up.
Brown said the long-time planning to bring Park Run to Grahamstown has been worth the wait, and said the project aims to get “Grahamstonians active”.
Run directors for the Grahamstown Park Run are Catherine Deiner, Sally Price-Smith, Lindsay Webber and Georgie Barrow.
The first Grahamstown Park Run takes place on Saturday 27 September and will be held every Saturday thereafter. The run starts at 8am from the entrance to the Makana Botanical Gardens. The route goes through the gardens, and into the Douglas Reservoir area.
“Ideally, this community project will continue over many years,” said Brown. Brown became interested in Park Run after hearing about the event from a friend who took part in the East London run.
Brown then competed in the Port Elizabeth Park Run, where she was inspired to get Grahamstown its own Park Run.
Park Run is free and open to anyone.

Once registered participants will need to print out their personalised barcode which will be the ticket to the race.
Results will be available soon after the event via e-mail as well as on the website.
Once registered, participants can take part in any one of the 36 Park Run events in South Africa, as long as you take along your barcode.
