Schools around the Eastern Cape are urged to be on the lookout for a scam that seems to be escalating rapidly.

MEC Mandla Makupula has issued a warning about a conman who claims to be from the office of the Eastern Cape Premier. He promises schools a consignment of 25 computers per institution, but adds that the computers can only be delivered if the school deposits a lump sum of money into a bank account, apparently for insurance purposes.

Makupula said in a statement that schools in Queenstown and Butterworth area have been defrauded by the conman.
