The annual Golden Games commenced this week at the Oval, celebrating healthy active ageing Grahamstown folk who proved that age is just a number.

The annual Golden Games commenced this week at the Oval, celebrating healthy active ageing Grahamstown folk who proved that age is just a number.

The Golden Games events are for athletes 70 years and older who keep fit through sport. In the Cacadu district games, participants took part in the following activities: Duck Walk; 500m Brisk Walk; 100m; 200m; 400m; and 800m sprint; Ball pass and kick; Ball passing; Rugby ball throw; Jukskei; Ring the Stick; Ball Relay; and Goal Shooting.

Athletes who will be advancing to the Provincial Games are: Barend Mentoor – 100m; Harry Porthen – 200m; Wilfred Appolis – 400m; Sayster Gouza – 800m and Virginia Richardsen – 500m Brisk Walk.
