For the past 20 years, on the first Friday of September, businesses, organisations, and schools have had an excuse for colourful and creative dressing. But this is not just about self-expression.

By spending just R10 on a Casual Day sticker, participants create awareness about the cause of the physically disabled. In addition, funds raised are distributed among various organisations, including Grahamstown's Association for the Physically Disabled.

Last year R24 million was raised nationally on Casual Day and distributed to 500 South African organisations working in the disability field.

The theme this year is ‘Bring out the bling’ – and organisers hope for an even higher total. Visit www.casualday.co.za for more information about prizes to be won in various categories such as ‘best selfie’ and ‘best bling hat’.

You can buy your sticker from Grahamstown-based Association for the Physically Disabled. Call the APD's Francine Mwetu at 046 622 5359.

Edgars, Jet and Absa are also selling stickers.

“Dust off your dancing shoes," the Casual Day moto urges. "Let Casual Day banish the blues.

Dress up and be bold, we’re 20 years old. Jazz up your jeans, with tassels and beads to support the activities of persons with disabilities.”
