The match took place as a fixture in the Grahamstown schools first team rugby league, which entered its second week after various matches took place at Miki Yili Stadium on Wednesday.
Held in conjunction witht he first team league is a girls' soccer league, an U15 league and a netball league. In their first fixture against Khutliso Daniels, Nyaluza won the match 65-0. They followed this with Wednesday's 33-0 win against Nombulelo.
Mazwi Dingana, rugby development officer for Eastern Province Rugby, said the league is a joint venture between the Grahamstown Schools Sport Development Initiative and South Eastern District Rugby Union (Sedru).
The league is the brainchild of Phumzile Adam who said the notion behind the initiative was to see the development of school sport. Dingana said the aim of the rugby league is to form an U15 Iqhwae team to represent Eastern Province at an inter-provincial tournament taking place in Cape Town in October.
The Iqhwae team is made up of various sub-unions. Adam, speaking on behalf of the Grahamstown Initiative Development Programme, said the objective of the rugby leagues was to “revive the culture of rugby in townships schools, and to build a base for club rugby”.
The 1st team rugby league consists of teams from Nathaniel Nyaluza, Nombulelo, Mary Waters, Khutliso Daniels, TEM Mrwethyana and Ntsika.
During Wednesday's game, Nombulelo were simply no match for the daring Nyaluza attack which raced to two quick first-half tries before clinching victory in the second-half. Nombulelo played most of the game defensively as they found it hard to keep up with the pace of their unforgiving opposition.
Mary Waters also achieved two wins in a row when they beat Kutliso Daniels 26-7. They previously beat Nombulelo 11-5 in their encounter.
In the U15 league Nyaluza beat Ntaba Maria 12-7 and Mary Waters U15 beat Archie Mbolekwa 15-0.
