Parents, Candice Louw-Arnold, said despite a letter to the province detailing the problems facing the school, nothing has been done.
"We don’t know what the hold-up is,” Arnold told Grocott's Mail in a telephonic interview yesterday.
On Tuesday 12 August, parents marched from the school gates through Sofira Township, Mandela Park and back to the school. They marched again yesterday morning.
The parents are demanding an Afrikaans-speaking Grade 1 teacher at the Afrikaans-medium school. Arnold said the post had been vacant for almost a year.
Ward 14 Councillor Ernest Louw said, “We are still waiting for approval from the Provincial Department to the District Director so that he can give the go-ahead to fill the vacant post.”
Louw said an education official had gone to Bhisho on Wednesday to raise the matter with MEC Mandla Makupula. Arnold said the Education Department had promised to deliver on its promises this week, but the school remains closed.
Children attending the school have not had classes since 25 July.
The office of the MEC could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
