Grahamstown police have appealed for members of the public to look out for a police dog that went missing in transit from Queenstown on Thursday 19 June.

Grahamstown police have appealed for members of the public to look out for a police dog that went missing in transit from Queenstown on Thursday 19 June.

Frans,  a five-year-old Belgian Shepherd, is a working patrol dog at Grahamstown SAPS K9 unit.

He  was returning from Pretoria after a routine dental examination.

According to the driver who was transporting Frans in a SAPS K9 vehicle with a trailer from Pretoria via Queenstown, Seymour and Fort Beaufort, a mechanical error to the cage.

The driver is not sure when it opened. He assumed Frans fell out somewhere along the route. “All efforts to trace Frans thus far have not been successful,” spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said in a media release late on Friday.

“Frans responds to Afrikaans and does bite," she said.

“An appeal is made to any person who may have information on Frans to make contact with any SAPS station in their immediate vicinity.”
