Makana Municipality's Electricity Department have issued notice of a planned interruption to the city's power supply on Saturday 28 June, affecting Vodacom, Cell C and MTN cellphone towers.
According to municipal spokesperson Yoliswa Ramokolo, this is due to maintenance work to be carried out by the department. The work will be rescheduled in the case of wet weather.
The power outage will take place between 8am to 5pm. Ramokolo said only two areas will be affected by the outage.
"The first area is the industrial zone which comprises of the prison, Waainek filter, Makana resort, Strowan farm and mine, Slaai Kraal, Golf course and factories in the industrial zone," Ramakolo said.
"The second area is the Howieson Poort line which feeds Mountain Drive Manor, Bracken Dale farm, Salem Cross, Thomas Bains and the Howieson Poort Pump station."
Cellphone reception is likely to be severely affected as Ramokolo said Vodacom, Cell C and MTN towers would also be knocked-out in the event of a power cut.
Ramokolo said, " this might lead to unavailability of network in cellphones of subscribers of [the three companies]".
Residents are advised to treat all electrical circuits as live during this period as the supply may be reinstated anytime.
This notice could be disregarded if power supply is not interrupted by 10am.
