Although the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Eleven Attackers had the necessary points to win the league.
Eleven Attackers now face automatic promotion to the South African Football Association SAB Cacadu league for the 2014/2015 final.
Saturday’s game started at a frantic pace with two goals scored in the first two minutes.
Eleven Attackers got the game going with a long range kick which went wayward. The ball found a Pillars player who immediately sent the ball up field, into the Attackers box.
A final pass found Pillars player Bongani Klaas who scored the opener with only 32 seconds on the clock.
The Pillars celebrations were short lived. Attackers re-started the match, this time carefully pushing the ball up field and forcing a corner kick.
This corner kick gave Attackers player Siviwe Madevu the opportunity to score the equaliser, 1 minute 54 seconds into the game. The rest of the 88 minutes saw both sides apply pressure and have a few great shots at goal.
While Attackers came close to scoring on numerous occasions, they were more interested in protecting the draw.
Attackers went into the game with 61 points from their 25 games, while Pillars had 58 points from 25 games. That meant Pillars needed a win to win the league.
Eleven Attackers coach, Simphiwe Faxi said it “feels great” to be crowned league champions, adding that it was a chance for the youngsters in the club to prove themselves.
Faxi added that it was not just the last game, but every 26 matches they played that helped them to win the league. “From the first game to the last game, there were no easy games”, said Faxi who added that he could not sleep the night before Saturday’s game, due to nerves.
Faxi said the next goal for Attackers is to stay in the Cacadu league for the next two years before they re-evaluate their goals. “Then we could look towards playing in the Vodacom Cup,” said Faxi.
Faxi congratulated the league officials on a “professionally run league.”
