Municipal Communications Officer, Yoliswa Ramokolo, has confirmed the dismissal of Human Resources Manager, Pumla Qezu, who was suspended in January last year.
Ramokolo told Grocott's Mail that Qezu was dismissed in December last year.
Qezu was suspended following complaints from the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), which alleged that she lied about her address in her application form for her position at Makana Municipality.
Makana Municipality placed Qezu on suspension in November 2012. Rumours that she was dismissed were confirmed by the municipality.
"She was dismissed last year in December," said Ramokolo, when asked about Qezu. She would not comment further on the issue and said she had no more information about it. Grocott's Mail contacted Qezu, but she said she would not comment on the matter.
The union questioned details on Qezu's application form and also accused her of nepotism.
Samwu later sent a memorandum to the Mayor, Zamuxolo Peter, demanding an investigation into the address she recorded on her application form and also accused her of “employing friends and relatives”.
Ramokolo would not say if, or when, the post would be advertised.
Currently Unathi Nondzube is acting in the position.
