Grahamstown comedian, Tsepiso Nzayo, has two, simultaneous, comedy category nominations for two different award ceremonies: Comics Choice Awards and Beat magazine’s SA Awards.

Beat magazine’s SA Awards are the first annual awards to be hosted by the Eastern Cape-based magazine. They will be held at the Guild Theatre, in East London, in June this year.

“I feel great, man. Being recognised for your craft is something good. It is motivating because you put more effort in and you perfect it because you don't want to disappoint people who support you,” said Nzayo.

“To me I feel that it is a 'we see what you are doing keep it up' type of thing. But it depends on the people because it is them who are going to vote. So that requires me to stay connected with my people as usual,” he adds.

Nzayo has been performing around the country, and has also performed as Master of Ceremony for corporate events.

He spoke to Grocott’s Mail shortly after returning from Johannesburg, where he attended the Savanna Comics Choice Awards Newcomers’ Showcase that took place on May 6.

He still needs votes, however, as there are 38 comedians contesting in this category ,while only the top four will compete in the Awards ceremony on August 2.
