Bodybuilding in Grahamstown has grown muscles since the Makana Natural and Fitness Club was founded last year. The second Makana Championships was held on Sunday 27 April, from 2pm onwards, at Prime Nightclub.
Bodybuilding in Grahamstown has grown muscles since the Makana Natural and Fitness Club was founded last year. The second Makana Championships was held on Sunday 27 April, from 2pm onwards, at Prime Nightclub.
The championships are organised by the Club.
Grahamstown competitors were joined by PE members of the Eastern Province Natural Association.
Winners of the various categories were as follows: Junior Phase – U17 Luthando Goba; U19 Aviwe Singata; U21 Andile Mapapu; Ladies' division Nicky Human; Senior Phase – Disabled category Danie September; U65kg Athinkosi Dibela; U70kg Lesley Sauls; U75kg Orren Jacobs; U80kg Mdu Dyongman; U90kg Simphiwe Kolosa; Masters Phase O50 Tommy Murphy.
The overall, junior phase winner was Andile Mapapu and the overall, senior phase winner was Orren Jacobs, who was also the overall winner of the event, gaining the title of Mr Grahamstown 2014.
Colonel Lieutenant Johan Botha, the warden of Cullen Bowles residence, is the Chairman and Constable Lesley Sauls is the Vice-Chairman, of the Makana Natural and Fitness Club.
Both were pleased with the outcome and attendance of the event.
“I’m exhausted now, but it was successful. I look forward to more people attending the next Development Champs of the Novice category in Grahamstown on 8 June this year,” Saul said.
"It was a great success and I'd like to thank the PE guys for coming down," Botha said.
Godfrey Simmons, the National President of the Eastern Province Natural Association, who was a judge at the event said, “Since last year there has been a vast improvement in bodybuilding and the quality of the athletes – and the show has grown.”
