Little Footballers is a new soccer training programme started by husband and wife team Siyabonga and Katlego Masimba. The programme, which provides professional soccer training, caters to children aged seven and up.

The idea behind Little Footballers is to develop talent as well as to provide important life skills to the youth.

“We meet every Friday at St Andrews to provide training and then, at the end, we play a 5-a-side game,” explained Siyabonga.

The programme currently trains 13 young players and is gaining interest from other local schools such as Good Shepard.

Katlego believes that the programme appeals to children, parents and schools alike because it is such a unique opportunity.

“Siya is a professional soccer coach, and that is not an easy thing to come by in Grahamstown,” said Katlego.

The couple intends for the programme to grow and wants to encourage as many interested children to join.

“If more kids join, then we can extend the programme. We want to do as much with it as we can,” explained Katlego.

The Little Footballers train from 3pm and have their skills test in the form of a match at 3.30pm.
