Owner Waseem Nawaz says pressure to reopen the shop has weighed heavily on him.
“I have a lot of customers who depend on my shop as my prices are cheap and there is a lot of demand for wholesales in Grahamstown” he said.
Nawaz is grateful for the support he has recently received from the community, he said.
The process of rebuilding has not been an easy one, says Nawaz.
It has been financially difficult for him to reopen – the store lost all its stock to the fire and the building suffered great structural damage in the blaze.
Though he is not pleased with the amount of stock he has, he is grateful for his trusted business partners and suppliers, who helped him restock his shop, he said.
Nawaz is still dissatisfied with local police regarding the investigation into what started the blaze.
He has not heard anything from the police regarding the investigation, he said.
Broadway Cash and Carry burnt down on Sunday 31 April last year.
Police confirmed last year that they were investigating the blaze as an arson, due to the substantial damage involved, as is police procedure.
